Questions and Answers
What is Supper for Six?
Supper for Six is a great way to meet folks from church that you may not already know. It’s also a good way to get to know your church family better. Groups plan their own meals and get together once a month for three consecutive months. You share meals at participants’ homes, restaurants, or wherever the group decides. The emphasis is on fun and fellowship, so you don't have to be a gourmet cook to participate.
How do I sign-up for a Supper for Six Group?
Simply fill out the online registration form or fill out a form at church and return it to Shannon Strickland. Once groups are formed, a Group Coordinator will be selected for each group. The Group Coordinator will contact members to arrange the details for the first gathering.
What does a Group Coordinator do?
The Group Coordinator contacts group members to schedule the location, date, and dish-rotations. It is highly recommended for groups to schedule future gatherings during their first night together.
What are Dish-Rotations?
The Dish-Rotation Model:
Month 1= A:Main Dish, B:Sides, & C:Dessert;
Month 2= C:Main Dish, A:Sides, & B:Dessert;
Month 3= B:Main Dish, C:Sides, & A:Dessert.
A, B, & C are each 2 sets of adults (any single or married combinations).
Who cooks the meals?
It's potluck! Usually the host will make the main dish, and other participants will bring coordinating sides and desserts. Potluck dinners are also a good way to simplify meal planning and distribute costs equally among everyone in the group. Consider picking a dinner "theme night" (i.e. Italian night, backyard barbeque, soup night, etc.), and everyone can bring a dish that goes along with that theme. Some groups may also choose to visit local restaurants or other venues.
I don't have room to host a dinner, or I really can't cook. Can I participate?
Absolutely! Our desire is for you to spend time together getting to know each other and to include everyone. Your group may choose to repeat a host home or eat out.
How are the Supper for Six groups formed?
As Supper for Six groups are formed, our goal will be to put groups together comprised of couples and singles totaling 6 adults, also taking into account the preferences selected. The mystery is part of the excitement!
What about families with children?
Your group will determine the answer here, bearing in mind that your preference for the kind of group you are interested in will have been taken into account initially. Please be sure to indicate your group-type preference on the registration form.
What happens after our last gathering?
Hopefully, you will have had a rewarding experience and look forward to similar experiences at Pillar Church of Dumfries. After the last gathering, you may decide to sign up for another round of Supper for Six with a different group of folks, or your group may wish to continue to meet together.
Sounds like fun! Can I sign up anytime?
Yes! Group formations are ongoing.

ManDown 2017 - Men's Retreat
October 27th - October 28th, 2017
In a culture where confusion about authentic manhood is at an all-time high we have the opportunity to take up a life displayed with crystal clarity in the person of Christ. Jesus Christ laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our life for our brothers (1 John 3:16). In a world that tells men to seek comfort we want to say sacrifice. In a world that tells men to flee responsibility, we want to say serve. In a world that tells men their greatest joys are found in looking out for themselves we want to point men to the enduring joy of the laid-down life.
The ManDown weekend is an opportunity to gather with other men to link arms in the pursuit of a life of service. We have a simple formula that we believe will make for a great weekend.
Teaching Sessions – We will gather together for Biblical Teaching on Authentic Manhood.
Recreational Excursions – There will be a variety of outdoor and recreational opportunities on Saturday to include but not limited to hiking, spelunking, athletics, chess, archery, sleeping, sitting, and more.
Friendship – The weekend will provide many of you the opportunity to see old friends within our network of churches as well as the opportunity to forge new ones. It is our hope that our churches would be marked by strong friendship and brotherhood and weekends like this are a way to make that possible.
November 5th - November 19th, 2017
Pillar will be hosting a baby dedication on November 19, 2017 during the service. This dedication is a way for parents to publicly commit to raise their child in the nurture and love of God and for the church to come along side to support and pray for this amazing responsibility as parents. For those interested, a short parenting class will be held on November 5th from 9-10am. This class is open to any who are interested in learning about baby dedications and raising children in a Biblical manner. This class is a requirement for anyone who would like their child(ren) dedicated.
